Tomás Matos is an award-winning Portuguese pianist based in London.
His numerous awards and prizes include:He has also performed in masterclasses led by Vladimir Viardo, Arie Vardi, Dmitri Bashkirov, Carles Lama, Guiglia Katsarava and Cristina Ortiz. In these performances, Tomás was highly commended for the connection between his unique musicianship and impressive technique.
Since moving to the UK in 2019, he has performed recitals in venues such as St James’s Piccadilly, the Old Royal Naval College and the Leighton House Museum.
Tomás is very active as a chamber musician. He has performed with several international figures, including the former Yamaha artist and current Buffet-Crampon artist Jorge Almeida, and the Buffet-Crampon artist Ilídio Massacote. In June 2022, Tomás was invited to the Hat Beethoven bei Brahms gelernt festival organised by Leonard Elschenbroich and Alexei Grynyuk, where he performed as a duo with the cellist Rebecca Deridder. He also performed a series of concerts in Malta with the violist Peter Fenech in July 2022, which included recitals at the Victoria International Arts Festival and the Presidential Palace.
Tomás has studied under some of the most prominent names in piano performance and music pedagogy, including Álvaro Teixeira Lopes and Yekaterina Lebedeva. In June 2022, he completed his MMus in Piano Performance at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, where he graduated with distinction. During his studies at Trinity, Tomás was the recipient of the Jimmie Cross Fund Scholarship, The Weingarten Prize for Piano and The Leonard Smith & Felicity Young Competition Prize.
